Design rugs for a contemporary interior
A design rug is the piece that sets the tone for a room. Where a plain rug quietly does its work, a design rug is chosen for its lines, its colour and its composition. It is the difference between a floor that is covered and a floor that has something to say. In this collection you will find rugs from the design brands Volero works with, alongside our own designs, in styles that range from modern and minimal to bold and graphic.
What makes a rug a design rug
Design is not a material and not a technique, it is an intention. A design rug starts from a drawing rather than from a standard pattern book, which is why the results are so varied: an abstract composition in muted earth tones, a graphic block print, a soft gradient, or a modern take on a classic medallion. What they share is that the design carries the rug, so it can hold a room together on its own.
Choosing a design rug
Start with the size. A design rug deserves enough space around it to be seen, so measure the room and allow the seating to sit at least partly on the rug. Then choose the palette: a rug in wool gives depth and warmth, while a low pile keeps the drawing sharp and is easier to live with in a busy room. And take your time. A design rug is a purchase you keep for years, so it is worth choosing the one you keep coming back to.
